Three Days During Spring Break
Monday-Wednesday, March 13-15, 8:00-3:00
Location: McKinley High School, Room F251
Cost: $150
A three-day course for middle and high school social studies teachers in which participants will learn about and experience strategies that have worked to increase student engagement and achievement.
Topics include note taking and reading strategies, review activities, engagement for EL students, using video and role play, collecting and using data, and ways to incorporate writing. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the activities and find ways to use them in their own classrooms.
Instructor: Jonathan Loomis
In his 21 years as an educator, Jon has taught in both middle and high schools and worked as a district resource teacher. He is currently the Social Studies Department Chair at McKinley High School where he teaches AP US History, AP Psychology, and 10th Grade US History. Jon is a National Board Certified Teacher for Social Studies-History: Adolescence and Young Adult. Jon is also certified as a foreign language teacher with years of experience meeting the needs of EL students in the inclusion setting. He edits the website inquiryhistory.com.
